Beauty shopping in Seoul + my haul

Hello everyone!

I am sorry for my long absence and not posting any reviews for a couple of months but I'm back! :-) I traveled to Seoul last month and came back to Germany at the beginning of April. I always enjoy traveling to Korea and have a good time there. I know that a lot of people are curious where they can find which brands in Seoul. I visited several beauty stores in Myeongdong, Garosugil, Hongdae, Sinchon and some other places to check out many stores and products. Let's get started!

OLIVE YOUNG 올리브영

Olive Young is the largest drugstore retailer in Korea and sells all kinds of beauty stuff and health supplements. It's widespread so you can find a store in your neighbourhood easily. It mainly carries domestic brands but also some international ones. I should mention that most of Olive Young stores are a bit small so they don't carry all products/brands which you can find on their website. In my case I had to go to 5 different Olive Young stores to get all products I wanted. So I recommend you to visit the large store in Myeongdong (Myeongdong Station, Line 4, exit 5 or 6).

LOHBs 롭스

LOHBs is a newer Korean drugstore that was founded by Lotte some years ago. LOHBs stands for Love, Health & Beauty. They carry a lot of international and domestic brands. I visited three LOHBS but I recommend you to visit the one in Hongdae (Hongik University, Line 2, exit 8) or Garosugil (Sinsa station, Line 3, exit 8) because they are larger and carry more products/brands.

When I compare Olive Young and LOHBS I couldn't notice big price differences. Of course both drugstores have different sales but their normal prices are (almost) the same. I just found that LOHBs is harder to find compared to Olive Young.

ARTBOX 아트박스

Artbox offers a wide variety of stationery, office materials, character products but also cosmetics (mainly sheet masks and skincare but also some makeup products). I went to several stores in Seoul but I think the large one in Myeongdong is the best (Myeongdong station, Line 4, exit 5 or 6).

Lala♥la (formerly Watsons)

When I walked around Seoul I wanted to go to Watsons but I couldn't find it anywhere. Then my Korean friends told me that Watsons changed its name to Lalavla (also written Lala♥la) in February 2018. I read that 60 new stores were opened in Korea between July and December last year and that they are planning to further expand this year. Olive Young is the largest drugstore retailer in Korea but Lalavla/Watsons is the largest drugstore chain in Asia. They sell domestic and international brands.

I only went to one Lalavla when I was in Myeongdong but you can also find this store in other areas or shopping street.

ALAND 에이랜드

A-LAND offers diverse products such as clothes, shoes, accessories, daily use items and cosmetics. Not all branches carry cosmetics and the ones that do, only sell a few brands. If you want to check out some cosmetic products I recommend you to visit the ALAND branch in Myeongdong (Myeongdong station, Line 4, exit ext 5 or 6) or in Garosugil (Sinsa station, line 3, exit 8).

GAROSUGIL 가로수길

Garosugil is an area in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It's a Gingko tree-lined street which is known for its boutiques, galleries, restaurant, cafes... You can get there by subway (line 3, Sinsa Station, exit 8). The street looks beautiful in summer when the trees bloom.

MYEONGDONG 명동

Myeongdong is probably the most popular shopping district in Seoul. There are a lot of brand name shops, department stores, cafes, restaurants... The good things about Myeongdong are that it is easy to get there by subway and that you can find all known brand name shops. Of course there are also bad things: Myeongdong is always crowded (except in the morning but it is especially crowded at night and on the weekend) and there are a lot of tourists. Most tourists are in a hurry and don't have much time so it can happen that they push other people and cut in line (for example at the cash desk). I also noticed that several products might be sold in Myeongdong but they are available at stores in other districts (like Sinchon, Hongdae, Garosugil, department stores...).
